EXPANDING THE REACH OF RALPHH ACROSS WELSH HOCKEY

The national charity RALPHH has extended its links with hockey in Wales but making two new presentation of defibrillation equipment.

The gifted defibrillators were made to Sue Noake Hockey Club and to Risca Hockey Club on the home ground pitch of both clubs at Ystrad Mynach, Hengoed. Receiving the potentially life-saving machines were ClairE Seabourne, Safeguarding and First Aid officer of Sue Noake Hockey Club and Sinead Walker, first team Captain of Risca.

These gifts are the latest in a series of hockey clubs in Wales which have benefited from the close links between the national charity and Hockey Wales. To date six clubs have now received free machines with a further one in progress. Both of the new additions see the main benefit of having the portable defibrillators is in connection with away game fixtures, as part of their involvement in the South Wales League. Between them the Clubs have 150 members with Risca playing in Divisions 2 and 5, whilst Sue Noakes is in Division 3.

The home base of both clubs is the Sue Noakes Leisure Centre, which takes its name from the late headmistress of a neighbour school, who had a strong interest in encouraging more local young people to become involved in sport.

The RALPHH charity, formally established in 2019, has been very active throughout 2024 in helping many different types of sport clubs have defibrillation equipment available. Key among these has been the sports of rowing, sailing and hockey, and across England and Wales numbers now stand at 40 locations. All of the charity’s partners see the value in being prepared for the unexpected circulatory or heart emergency and with sports such as hockey being so fast and competitive, the logic is overwhelming.

Named after the late Robert Allen (Robert Allen Life Promotion and Healthy Hearts Trust), the charity would welcome hearing from more hockey clubs to determine how best RALPHH may assist, often by providing free equipment or grants to maximise easy access to players and spectators.
